Dr. David Freilich - Cardiology associates of Morristown

Dr. David Freilich MD, FACC

Dr. David Ira Freilich is a board-certified cardiologist and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  He has been in private practice in Morristown, New Jersey for the past 27 years.  Patient care is his primary focus, and he is committed to providing state-of-the-art care to his patients, with an emphasis on excellent communication, patient education, and ease of access.  He is recognized for resident and medical student education at Morristown Memorial Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.  Non-invasive cardiology, which encompasses nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, transesophageal echo and stress-echo, is an area where Dr. Freilich’s expertise is unsurpassed in the Morristown area.  The Board of Nuclear Cardiology and the National Board of Echocardiography has certified him.  Dr. Freilich has been recognized by his peer physicians in the Top Doctors publication, a list compiled by an independent consumer group.  He has also been recognized by Castle Connolly, Best Doctors, Guide to America’s Top Physicians, and Guide to America’s Top Cardiologists

Dr. Freilich attended Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, after completing his major in chemistry in only three years at Brooklyn College of CUNY.  Dr. Freilich was the only student in his class to be selected to attend P&S as a junior in college.  He was awarded the Jonas Salk Scholarship for medical research by an undergraduate at CUNY, as well as the prestigious New York Regent’s Scholarship in medicine, awarded to the top fifty scorers on the MCAT in New York State.  Both residencies in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology were completed at Mount Sinai Medical Center by Dr. Freilich.  He then stayed on to practice cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York until he moved to Morristown in 1991.

His publication of research articles and abstracts in many fields of interest have been an accomplishment which Dr. Freilich is been quite proud of.  These areas include physical chemistry, clinical pharmacology, atherosclerotic models and congestive heart failure.

Dr. John Cosmi - Cardiology associates of Morristown

Dr. John Cosmi MD, FACC

A native of Wayne, New Jersey, Dr. John Cosmi pursued his undergraduate studies at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, where he majored in classics and biology, graduating with honors and being elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

He attended New Jersey Medical School in Newark, where he was a recipient of numerous scholarships and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha.  John then completed his residency in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital in New York City, after which he was chosen to serve as a chief medical resident. He received board certification in internal medicine.

Dr. Cosmi continued at NYU for a cardiology fellowship, where he was elected a fellow of the year twice and authored several scientific papers in the fields of echocardiography and myocardial infarction.  He then completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at NYU and received board certification in both general cardiology and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Cosmi has been in practice in Morristown for 13 years. He has received multiple awards, including New Jersey Monthly Top Doctors for the past ten years, Castle Connolly Top Doctors, and New Jersey Top Docs. He practices both general and interventional cardiology at Morristown Medical Center.  He has special interests in preventive cardiology, valvular heart disease, and coronary artery disease.

Dr. Jason Salamon - Cardiology associates of Morristown

Dr. Jason Salamon MD, FACC, FASE

A native of Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Jason N. Salamon pursued his undergraduate studies at Yeshiva University in New York City, where he majored in History and pre-medical sciences. He graduated with honors including Magna Cum Laude, Dean’s List and multiple awards at graduation.

He then attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY where he served as a student peer tutor and graduated with distinction in research for Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Salamon then completed his internship, residency and fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center where he was awarded teacher of the year and chosen to serve in leadership roles both locally and regionally, including at the American Heart Association. He received both local and national research awards, including at the Heart Failure Society of America. He subsequently received board certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Salamon has been in practice in Morristown since 2017. He has been appointed to the teaching faculty of the departments of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Cardiology at Morristown Medical Center where he continues to teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows. He has been honored to receive multiple teaching awards during this time. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. His practice focuses on Preventative Cardiology, Heart Failure, Coronary Artery Disease, Valvular Heart Disease and Vascular Disease.

Dr. Mark Blum - Cardiology associates of Morristown

Dr. Mark Blum MD, FACC

Dr. Mark Blum is a board-certified cardiologist and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  He has practiced in Morristown, New Jersey for the past 29 years and is a full attending physician at Morristown Medical Center, the major heart hospital in the state.  He served as the former director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Dr. Blum graduated from the Mt. Sinai Medical School in New York and did his residency and cardiology training at the Mt. Sinai Hospital.  Moving to New Jersey in 1988, he underwent further specialty training in interventional cardiology at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, before moving to Morristown with the introduction of the heart surgery program there in 1989.  Dr. Blum is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Providing top quality care has always been Dr. Blum’s main focus.  With this in mind, he has been active in clinical research, providing his patient’s access to new medications and technology long before they are available to the general public.  Early work in coronary stent research, radiation delivery systems to treat heart disease and electromagnetic cardiac imaging systems have led to major clinical advances in the field of interventional cardiology.

Morristown Medical Center prides itself on providing top quality education to visiting physicians, medical residents, students, and other health care professionals.  Through on-going teaching efforts in multiple areas, Dr. Blum has been able to pass along his knowledge to others.  With the exciting addition of the specialty Gagnon Heart Hospital in Morristown, Dr. Blum and his colleagues continue to provide first class care for their patients in an exciting new and relaxing environment.

Dr. Leonid Mandel - Cardiology associates of Morristown

Dr. Leonid Mandel MD, FACC

Leonid Mandel, MD, was born in the USSR and grew up in Queens, N.Y., where he attended high school.  He graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and a minor in biology.  He attended Ross University School of Medicine, where he was on the Dean’s List throughout his tenure. He was recognized with a Distinguished Scholar award, subsequently receiving his medical degree with highest honors.

Dr. Mandel completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Dentistry.  He stayed on as assistant professor of medicine, on the clinical educator track, while simultaneously completing a fellowship in advanced heart failure management at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn.  He served as a Fellow in cardiology at Jefferson Medical College at Christiana Care Medical Center in Newark, Del., and obtained additional expertise in interventional cardiology by completing a fellowship there.  He authored a book chapter and has had papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Mandel‘s professional interests are focused on all aspects of general cardiology, including cardiac interventions.  His passion for medical education was recognized by the cardiology fellowship at Morristown Medical Center with a Teacher of the Year Award as an outstanding educator and mentor in 2018.  He is fluent in Russian.

Dr. Joseph Forgione

Dr. Joseph Forgione

A native of New Jersey, Dr. Joseph Forgione pursued his undergraduate studies at Boston College, where he majored in Italian and Biology. He graduated with honors including Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, among several others.

Due to his academic excellence, he was accepted into Tufts University School of Medicine through the Early Assurance Program as a sophomore in college. During his time at Tufts, Dr. Forgione had the unique experience of rotating through the Medical Unit as a medical student researcher on the Dr. Oz Show in New York City.

Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. He stayed in Washington, DC for his cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at George Washington University Hospital. During his time at GW, he was involved in medical student education and outcomes research in coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. He concurrently received a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Quality at the George Washington University School of Business.

Dr. Forgione’s training in both noninvasive and interventional therapies provides his patients with a versatile range of therapeutic and diagnostic options. His clinical interests include management of valvular and coronary artery disease, ranging from preventative care to complex percutaneous coronary interventions. Above all, he prioritizes a thoughtful, compassionate and collaborate patient-care approach.
